NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Health concerns about Salmonella contamination has resulted in one pet food maker recalling a number of different products.

Natura Pet Products is voluntarily recalling specific lots of dry pet food because of the potential contamination. The recall includes food products for dogs, cats, and ferrets.

The contamination was discovered in a single lot, during routine testing done by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recall includes all California Natural, EVO, Healthwise, Innova, Karma and Mother Nature brands of dry pet food and treats with expiration dates before June 10, 2014. Customers who have purchased any of the specific food products should throw them out.

According to the FDA, there have been no reports of pet or human illness associated with any of the products. The FDA website states that both humans and pets could be negatively affected: animals by eating the products and people by handling the contaminated pet food.

FDA officials said pets infected with Salmonella might be lethargic, have diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Human infection would include symptoms including — nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. It is suggests that both individuals and owners with pets displaying these symptoms contact a medical professional.

All of the affected dry food products are sold in bags, across North Texas, through veterinary clinics, pet specialty stores, and online.
