DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Police say a Dallas man fatally stabbed another man outside a North Oak Cliff night club early Sunday before turning the same knife on two off-duty officers and a witness who intervened. Adolph Menjivar, 31, was arrested on suspicion of murder, two counts of aggravated assault of a public servant and one count of aggravated assault. According to police records, Menjivar got into a “traffic altercation” with Fernando Lopez, 22, in front of Club 216 on South Llewellyn Avenue.
“The altercation escalated between the two and words were exchanged,” according to police records. Menjivar jumped out of his blue Nissan Altima armed with a folding knife and started stabbing Lopez repeatedly as he sat in the passenger side of a gray Dodge Charger. Lopez’s friends got out of the car and tried to stop Menjivar from stabbing Lopez in the upper body.
Two officers who were working off duty at the club, heard the disturbance and attempted to stop the fight, police say. They were stabbed as they tried to take disarm and take Menjivar into custody, according to police records. One of the witnesses was also stabbed during the assault. He was treated at the scene and released. Both officers went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Lopez was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center where he died.
