Father Arrested For Going To Bar & Leaving Kids In Hot Car
DALLAS COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) – A North Texas father is behind bars today after police arrested him for leaving his children inside a hot vehicle while he went inside a bar for a drink.
Mesquite resident Francisco Lopez is facing five Abandonment/Child Endangerment charges.
According to police, a security guard outside of Sonrisas Bar on of Samuell Boulevard, noticed several children alone, inside a vehicle.
The worker flagged down an off-duty police officer who found five children, ranging from nine-months to 8-years-old, in a 1993 brown Chevy.
Police found Lopez, 34, inside the bar having an alcoholic drink. Witnesses say he had been there for at least 30 minutes.
Dallas Fire Rescue went to the scene and found the children in good health. The kids have been released into the custody of a relative. Officials with Child Protective Services (CPS) told CBS 11 News they are not involved in the case.
Lopez was booked into jail Sunday morning and is being held on $50,000 bond. Records show Lopez has two previous DWI convictions, one in 2009 and one in 2004.
