GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) – Police in Grand Prairie took a suspect into custody early Monday morning after a short chase, and then did not have to travel very far to put him behind bars. The incident started at about 3:30 a.m. when an officer stopped a male driver for speeding.
While the officer was back at his squad car checking the driver’s license, the man sped away from the scene. Police chased the suspect for about 18 minutes at normal speeds, before the driver led authorities into familiar territory.
The driver turned into the back parking area of a police station. The area is gated, but the gates opens automatically when a police car is pulling up to the building. Since there were police cars pursuing the suspect, the gates opened for the man and he pulled right into the police station, directly next to the jail.
The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Stephen Esquivel. He was arrested without any further incident and walked by officers right into the jail. On their Facebook page, the Grand Prairie Police Department said, “It’s always nice when the suspects make it easy on us.”
