Purple Worn In Memoriam Of Slain Child
SAGINAW (CBS 11 NEWS) - Saginaw is going purple to honor 6-year-old Alanna Gallagher.
At Country Acres Child Development Center, employees will be wearing either purple ribbons or shirts all next week.
“It’s been heartbreaking for all of us from the first days of not knowing who the child was and to knowing and feeling like there is not anything we can do,” says Tekie Robertson with Country Acres. “This is what we thought to do to help support our community.
Alanna’s body was found bound and wrapped in a tarp Monday night.
Since then, at least fifty investigators have been working on the case everyday.
A cause of death has not yet been determined, but the case is being investigated as a homicide.
Police are going through surveillance video from homes in the neighborhood where Alanna’s body was found and where she lives hoping to find some clues.
While investigators are not saying whether she was sexually assaulted, they have talked to a majority of the sex offenders in that zip code.
Meantime, the memorial site with dozens of teddy bears and pink balloons continues to grow.
“We need to find who did this,” says Gloria Whisenant, who lives near where Alanna’s body was found and who dropped off a doll. “God is with the family and I know she is in heaven. I know she is safe.”
Police say they are confident this is an isolated case and say family members are not considered suspects.
