IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) – An off-duty officer with the Irving Police Department was shot by his estranged wife during a domestic disturbance at his home in southern Tarrant County, according to authorities.
The incident happened at around 9 p.m. Tuesday night in the 7200 block of Retta Mansfield Road.
The woman went to the house and got into a fight with the officer, who has now been identified as Brandon Spencer. According to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, the still unidentified woman shot Spencer twice.
After the shooting, Officer Spencer managed to get himself to a nearby home to call 911 for help. He was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth with unknown injuries, but is expected to be okay.
Meanwhile, the body of the officer’s estranged wife — and suspected shooter — was found a short distance away, in Johnson County. Investigators believe that she committed suicide just after the officer shooting took place.
Officer Spencer has been with Irving PD for 18 years and is currently assigned to the Investigative Services Bureau.
