Randy Travis Stabilized & Showing Signs Of Improvement
COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) – After canceling an in-person update on the condition of Randy Travis, the country music star’s public relations team referred members of the media to a hospital website for statements from Travis’ physicians.
Other than to say that Travis’ condition “has stabilized and he has shown signs of improvement,” doctors William Gray and Michael Mack gave little information on the singer.
It had already been confirmed that Travis had been admitted to a North Texas hospital on Sunday. Dr. Gray reiterated, saying, “Mr. Randy Travis was admitted through an emergency department to Baylor Medical Center at McKinney.”
Gray said Travis had no previous health problems. It wasn’t until three weeks ago, when he developed a viral upper respiratory illness that serious problems began to arise.
While at the McKinney hospital doctors deduced that Travis has cardiomyopathy, a weakening of the heart muscles caused by a viral infection, and congestive heart failure. After stabilizing the singer, doctors made the decision to transfer the 54-year-old to the Heart Hospital Baylor Plano on Monday. Gray said it was because Travis could receive “a higher level of specialized care,” at the location.
Just last month Travis, a Grammy Award-winning singer, attended the 2013 CMT Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee. He was scheduled to perform in Deadwood, South Dakota tonight.
Most recently Travis has been in the news for allegedly running afoul of the law. In February 2012, he was charged with public intoxication after being found in a vehicle parked in front of a church Sanger. The singer was also arrested in August 2012 after a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper found him naked, after crashing his car near Tioga.
Tuesday Travis’ representatives requested that all cards and well wishes be sent to:
266 Blanks Road
Tioga, Texas 76271
The video posted online Wednesday said doctors would be giving further updates as Travis’ condition changes.
