DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A water pipeline measuring 20 inches in diameter broke early Friday morning, creating an impromptu fountain at the intersection of Arapaho Road and Hillcrest Road in Dallas. The incident started shortly before 5:00 a.m. and was under control about 90 minutes later.
Crews with Dallas Water Utilities were forced to shut down parts of the intersection in order to work on the issue. The southbound lanes of Hillcrest Road have been closed, along with the eastbound lanes of Arapaho Road. The westbound side of Arapaho Road remains open, as does a single northbound lane of Hillcrest Road.
Repairs are expected to be completed by the end of Friday. Water service to one nearby business will be interrupted while crews work to fix the broken pipeline.
The break and resulting gusher did not appear to cause any damage to nearby property. However, photographs from the scene show that a traffic signal was knocked to the ground.
The cause of the break is not yet known, nor is the amount of water that was released into the street.
