You know what’s more fun than your team being awesome? Winning by default!

Maybe I’m a weirdo.  Scratch that.  I know I’m a weirdo.  I take at least as much pleasure from watching the Giants, Redskins and Eagles suck as I do from watching the Cowboys do well.  I’m the guy who while the Rangers were making playoff runs would always cheer for the worst team possible to go up against.  I don’t want to play the best of the best, I want to have matchups against mediocre teams who somehow get lucky bounces and beat good teams on my way to a title.

Enter this year with the Dallas Cowboys.

I think they’re a ten or eleven win team.  I thought that before the season.  A lot of people disagree, a lot of folks are just conditioned to say “same old Cowboys” whether they are or not each season.  This team has taken to Monte Kiffin and Rod Marinelli’s schemes quicker than anyone thought. People are making plays, the offensive line is better and the playcaller is a proven commodity.  They’re a good football team.

But even better than that:  The Giants, Redskins and Eagles all suck!

Pierre Garcon says it’s clear that Robert Griffin isn’t healthy.  Eli Manning is playing behind a line that looks like something Romo played behind the last 2 years, and it’s exposing him as the overrated (albeit very good in a couple pressure situations with help) QB that he is.  A team led by post-prison Mike Vick is not to be taken seriously as a contender.

The Cowboys won the NFC East!  It’s already done.  By default.  I for one prefer it that way.

Eli and the Giants won Super Bowls because the ball bounced their way. They weren’t the best team in the league either year.

All I want is the Cowboys to have a shot to be that team.

Step one:  Reach the playoffs.  Who needs domination and a twelve win season when you can just be in a putrid division where every other team is completely inept?  If the Cowboys go 8-8, that’s enough for a home playoff game!  Sign me up!

Also a quick RIP to the Texas Rangers season. They’re done.

Blame JD or hitting coach Dave Magadan.  Don’t blame Wash or you’ll be a confirmed sports idiot.  Let the Rangers go, embrace the Cowboys.  Only one is making the playoffs, and it ain’t the baseball folks.

Double also:  Go bid a hearty farewell to Patrcik the anti-social possibly gay gorilla at the Dallas Zoo this weekend.  $5 off entry!
