The 2013 State Fair of Texas opened on Friday morning, giving many visitors their first look at the Fair’s biggest attraction — the new Big Tex.
Big Tex was redesigned and rebuilt after the iconic structure was destroyed in a fire in the fair’s final weekend last year, just weeks after turning 60 years old. Officials determined that the fire started with an electrical spark in Big Tex’ right boot.
The reaction to the redesigned Big Tex has been mixed.
“He looks like a giant Woody from Toy Story!” says Christina Marie on Facebook.
“I actually think they did a great job. He is no longer bow legged….thank goodness,” said David W Summers.
