A dreary start to our work week with off and on rain here on Monday. Temperatures have been in the 60s most of the day with the cloud cover and rain.
Rain will continue thru the night with some pockets of moderate rain overnight.
The rain that we are seeing is partially coming from moisture that was once Tropical Storm Sonia off the west coast of Mexico. Sonia has dissipated over Mexico but the stream of moisture is flowing right into Texas.
There is also an upper level disturbance over the mountain west that will move east over the next 48 hours.
That will eventually send a cold front into North Texas and end the rain, but bring us some pretty chilly weather.
That cold front will arrive Wednesday morning likely in DFW between 2am and 11am. There could be an isolated thunderstorm with the front, but severe weather is not expected and it looks to mainly be more rain.
Behind the front on Wednesday it will be windy and chilly with temperatures in the 50s most of Wednesday.
Here is a look at rain chances over the near term.
WHERE RAIN WILL BE LOCATED
MONDAY 7:00PM – More of what we have seen thru much of the day. Spotty rain and cool temps.
TUESDAY 1:00AM – Rain coverage and intensity increase for most areas.
TUESDAY 8:00AM – Spotty rain continues. Chilly start for the kids as there will be rain and temperatures right around 60 degrees.
TUESDAY NOON – Mostly cloudy skies, spotty light rain, but rain coverage decreases during afternoon on Tuesday.
TUESDAY 3:00PM – Still some spotty showers around North Texas with temperatures around 70 degrees.
TUESDAY 8:00PM – Scattered rain continues
TUESDAY 11:00PM – Rain coverage starts to increase with approach of cold front from the NW.
WEDNESDAY 3:00AM – Showers ahead of the cold front with temps still in the 60s.
WEDNESDAY 7:00AM – Cold front arrives in the DFW metro area between 2am and 11am. This model depicts the front over Fort Worth around 7am. There could be a few isolated thunderstorms with the front, but mainly rain. It will turn colder behind the front with temps falling into the 50s and gusty north winds behind the front.
WEDNESDAY 11:00AM – You can see the temps fall into the 50s at DFW with gusty north winds above 20 mph. Rain will end from west to east during the day on Wednesday.
WEDNESDAY 4:00PM – Mostly cloudy thru much of Wednesday afternoon and cold. Temps will be in the 50s most of the day on Wednesday with gusty north winds.
THURSDAY MORNING – Cold with clear skies. Most areas will be in the 30s. Some spots to the NW of DFW could see a frost!
