HOUSTON (CBSDFW.COM/AP) – Former First Lady Barbara Bush was released from Houston Methodist Hospital this morning, after being treated for pneumonia.

Mrs. Bush was initially admitted to the hospital on Monday for respiratory related issues.

A spokesman for the office of former President George H.W. Bush released this statement from Mrs. Bush today:

“I cannot thank the doctors and nurses at Houston Methodist enough for making sure I got the best treatment and got back to George and our dogs as quickly as possible.”

Mrs. Bush, 88, and her husband George H. W. Bush will celebrate with their 69th wedding anniversary on Monday.

Mrs. Bush has been in and out of the hospital over the past few years. In 2010, she was admitted to a hospital for a relapse of Graves disease, which she was originally treated for in 1989.

In 2009, Mrs. Bush had heart surgery for a severe narrowing of the main heart valve. In 2008, Mrs. Bush underwent surgery for a perforated ulcer.
