PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) – A young girl is dead following a car crash in Plano this past weekend. It happened at about 3:45 p.m. on Saturday in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 75 near Legacy Drive.
Several witnesses described the crash to police. A blue Dodge pickup truck was reportedly traveling in the lefthand lane as traffic came to sudden stop. The pickup truck driver tried to prevent a crash by swerving away from a vehicle directly ahead. But that truck entered the highway’s HOV lane and struck a maroon Chevrolet sedan.
The sedan traveled along the highway’s concrete barrier, hit a light pole and ultimately came to a rest upside down. Four people inside of the car were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Three of those victims suffered minor injuries, but a 4-year-old girl was pronounced dead.
There were five people inside of the pickup truck. None were injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Plano Police Department. Officials said that alcohol was not a factor in the incident, and that all occupants in both vehicles were using the appropriate safety belts or child safety seats.
