WILLOW PARK (AP) - No propeller, no problem for a veteran North Texas pilot who safely glided and landed his single-engine plane at a former horse racing track.

Jack Barnett of Benbrook says the prop apparently cracked and split in two on Tuesday afternoon and fell from the aircraft.

Barnett, who’s been flying his Grumman AA-5 Tiger for more than 30 years, took off from a nearby private air park on a pleasure flight when he lost the propeller. The incident happened at an altitude of about 2,000 feet.

The 79-year-old pilot glided to the former Trinity Meadows Race Track near Willow Park, 15 miles west of Fort Worth. Barnett put the aircraft down in a large drainage ditch in the infield.

The plane broke its main and nose gear in the emergency landing.
