IRVING, Texas (AP) –  Bradie James is retiring with the Dallas Cowboys after the linebacker spent nine of his 10 seasons with the team that drafted him in 2003.

James signed a one-day contract Tuesday, wrapping up a career that included him being one of six Cowboys with at least 1,000 career tackles. The 33-year-old James played his final season with Houston in 2012.

James was a fourth-round pick out of LSU who started 126 of his 157 games. He set a Dallas franchise record by leading the team in tackles for six consecutive seasons.

He had 202 tackles in 2008, just the second time a Dallas player has topped 200 in a season. Eugene Lockhart did it in 1989.
