The To Do List: Weekend Of May 15-18
Here is a list of some great things to do around the Metroplex this weekend:
See Hal Ketchum Thuursday,May 15 at the Kessler in Dallas. This guy is just awesome. Not only does he play drums, guitar and write great tunes…but he is also a painter and a master carpenter. He also enjoys making toys.
Tonight is your last chance to see Loki actor Tim Hiddleston playing a vampire in the film, “Only Lovers Left Alive” check it out Thursday, May 15 at the Angelika in Dallas.
Thursday, May 15 at the Dallas Arboretum Cool Thursday’s concert, you can see The World’s #1 Tribute to Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band…Bruce in the USA! Don’t forget this week’s costume contest. The theme is “The USA Rocks! Award” so show up dressed head to toe in red, white & blue! And don’t worry about the weather. If things get ugly, they just move the party inside.
Make plans to attend Addison’s Fork & Cork this weekend (May 17) at Addison Circle Park. World-renowned chef Marcus Samuelsson and Texas’ own Pat Green will headline this mouth-watering weekend!
The Denton County Farm & Garden Expo is happening this weekend (May 17) at the North Texas State Fairgrounds. This thing will feature the Denton County Master Gardeners & the Denton County Antique Tractor Club. Plus there will be Arts & Crafts Vendors, Farm Demonstrations, Food Vendors, and Kids Zone Activities.
The annual HP Byron Nelson Championship runs through this weekend (May 16-18) with a lot of stuff to do besides golf and kids 13 and military folks get in free. Besides the golf, you can check out the Pavilion After Dark Concert Series; Youth Clinic; and a free, air conditioned Kids Zone that includes bounce houses, and crafts.
Grapevine Historic Main Street District is the scene for this weekend’s Main Street Days (May 17,18). It is a time to celebrate Grapevine’s history and heritage. I am soooo loving this. You’ll celebrate the best of the best pizza from many of Grapevine’s restaurants in a Little Italy style setting include Frank Sinatra style music. Plus they’ll have craft beers, and Texas and International wines. For the kids, there is an interactive KidZone and a full carnival.
The Civil War and American Art exhibit is happening Thursday May 15 at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth. This event will take a look at the role of American art and artists during the Civil War.
Get a 5th of Beethoven with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra as they present Beethoven’s Fifth at the Meyerson Thursday May 15.
Help out a great cause this weekend and get into swimsuit shape at the same time. The Bach-A-Thon Saturday, May 16 at Panther Island Pavilion in Fort Worth is a walk, run and bike ride benefiting the Tour Fund of the Fort Worth Youth Orchestra.
You can “Chalk This Way 2014” Saturday May 16 at the MCL Grand Courtyard in Lewisville. This event features professional sidewalk chalk artists, art exhibits, amateur chalk art contest, scholarship contest for High School Seniors, Children’s non-competitive Chalk Art Gallery, food, drinks and live music on three stages.
The one and only Hank Williams Jr. is playing Choctaw Casino Friday night May 16.
The 2014 Lone Star Corvette Classic at Texas Motor Speedway is set for this weekend (May 17,18). Festivities will include an escorted cruise and BBQ dinner, two free car shows with a slew of corvettes and “Track Day” on Sunday that includes laps in your ‘Vette on the Oval or Road Course.

This weekend’s (May 17,18) Fort Worth Music Fest has something for darn near everyone. The one and only Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top will be there…The Airborne Toxic Event…Jimmy Eat World…Ray Wylie Hubbard and a bunch more. Check it out at Panther Island Pavilion.
If you grew up with the music of the 70’s and 80’s…this weekend is for you. First, you can see arena rock at its finest with Foreigner, STYX, and former Eagle Don Felder at the Verizon theatre in Grand Prairie Saturday night, May 17.
If you were not grooving to arena rock back in the day…you were probably digging on some Disco and I have you covered there this weekend as well. This Sunday’s( May 18) Disco Run at Fair Park benefitting Taylor’s Gift will involve a lot of Disco clothes and a best costume contest for runners…great tunes and hot pancakes.
It doesn’t matter what you are into: Comics, Sci-Fi, Horror, Anime, Gaming….Dallas ComicCon will have something you dig this weekend (May 17,18). They’ll have celebs to pester and if you are one of those who has to be the center of attention…check out The Cosplay Red Carpet tomorrow.
