DALLAS (AP) – A North Texas pharmacist has been sentenced to five years in prison in a scam in which homeless people were recruited as patients and then drugs were resold.

Lisa L. Hollier of Sunnyvale was sentenced Monday in Dallas. Hollier was convicted in February of conspiracy to unlawfully distribute a controlled substance.

Federal prosecutors say Hollier owned and operated Urban Independent Pharmacy in Dallas.

A dozen other defendants pleaded guilty in the scheme and received penalties ranging from probation to six years in prison.

Investigators say drug dealers lured people from homeless shelters to serve as patients. The individuals were transported to a wellness center where a doctor falsely diagnosed them as needing controlled substances, such as hydrocodone.

The prescriptions filled by the pharmacy were later sold on the street.
