Mack Brown, Fulmer Added To Broyles Award Committee

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Former coaches Mack Brown of Texas and Phillip Fulmer of Tennessee have been named to the selection committee for the Broyles Award, which is given annually to the top assistant coach in college football.

The Little Rock Rotary Club announced the addition Wednesday. The panel includes former coaches Vince Dooley of Georgia, Hayden Fry of Iowa and Barry Switzer of Oklahoma, among others.

Brown coached Texas to a national title in 2006 and Fulmer led Tennessee to one in 1998. Both also have had assistant coaches win the Broyles Award: Texas offensive coordinator Greg Davis in 2005 and Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe in 1998.

The award is named after longtime Arkansas coach Frank Broyles, who had 24 assistants become head coaches.

This year’s winner will be announced Dec. 9.
