ARGYLE (CBSDFW.COM) – A North Texas family who was killed in a head-on crash in New Mexico was remembered by hundreds at a prayer vigil at their church, Argyle United Methodist Church.
LeAnn Miller, 48, her husband, Michael Miller, 47, and their two children, 12 year-old Zoey and 7 year-old Miles, were killed instantly after a pickup truck collided head-on with their van on a rural New Mexico Highway.
The family had been returning home from vacation.
LeAnn Miller and Michael Miller had one child each from previous relationships.
Friends, family, classmates, and church associates shared memories of the family that, by all accounts, was always involved in the community.
The family were long-time members and volunteers at Argyle United Methodist Church.
Family members from Nebraska and South Dakota were present at the vigil, including LeAnn Miller’s younger brother, who said he was in disbelief when he heard the news of the crash.
His wife got a call on Friday at 4 a.m.
“She woke me up and this is the one thing that is going to be caught in my mind. She said, ‘LeAnn was in a car accident. LeAnn is gone.’ And then she said, ‘They’re all gone,'” Craig Lieber said.
Lieber said the vigil was more of a celebration of their lives, rather than a sad occasion.
He said his sister was a strong woman who always cheered him on in track as a child and in life as an adult.
“I was coming in for that last 100 [yards] and she said, ‘Keep your eyes up! Keep your eyes up!” Lieber recalled. “What she was really saying was always look at the goal. If you have your eyes down, you’re not going to see the goal.”
Funeral arrangements are pending.
