On Wednesday night, the New York Yankees faced off against against the ever so dominant David Price and collected 9 consecutive hits in the third inning. Every Yankee in the batting order got a hit off of David Price last night at Comerica Park. Price who has been involved in the Cy Young talk this year was recently traded by the Tampa Bay Rays to the Tigers.

The last time David Price only made it two innings in a game? May 15th, 2013. The Yankees, who are chasing the Tigers and Mariners for a wild card spot, were loving every bit of last night and you could even say most fans were quite surprised at the result. Let’s take a look at the 9 consecutive hits the New York Yankees strung together against David Price that led them to an 8-4 win on Wednesday night in Detroit.

1. Jacoby Ellsbury

The outfielder singled to right field to start off the third inning.

2. Number 2, Derek Jeter, Number 2

El Capitan doubled in the third inning in his last regular season game at Comerica Park in Detroit. #RE2PECT

3. Martin Prado

This five tool player has been quite the surprise and an asset to the Yankees since acquiring him at the trade deadline. Prado singled off of Price to keep the rally going.

4. Mark Teixeira

Mark “Marky Mark Always Injured Fatherhood Won” Teixeira doubled, which scored Derek Jeter.

5. Carlos Beltran

The former Met and current Yankee outfielder singled to deep right to keep the streak alive at five consecutive hits.

6. Brian McCann

Playing DH against Price, number 34 singled to center and drove in an RBI bringing hit total on the season to 56.

7. Chase Headley

The former Padres who has filled in nicely at third base in place of Alex Rodriguez singled to keep the streak at 7.

8. Brett Gardner

The Speedster beat out the throw and got an infield single that drove in Carlos Beltran

9. Francisco Cervelli

The backup catcher got the ninth and final consecutive hit off of David Price before he was pulled thanks to a single to left which brought McCann home.

After Cervelli, Price was pulled. Who knows what would have happened if he had stayed in the game. 10 hits? 12 hits? Could he have made history? Quite possibly but we won’t ever get to find out because manager Brad Ausmus pulled Price after the 9th consecutive hit. Price’s final line? 2 IP, 12 H, 8 ER, 1BB, 3 SO, 68 pitches.
