FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – A suspect led law enforcement officials on a chase across much of the Metroplex early Thursday, and was eventually taken into custody in east Fort Worth. The incident began just before 1:00 a.m. and lasted a little over an hour.

An officer in Fort Worth first spotted the male suspect sleeping in his vehicle — a Chevrolet Malibu — in the parking lot of a Motel 6, located in the 1200 block of Oakland Boulevard. The officer approached the suspect but, during that initial encounter, the man started to flee in his vehicle.

The chase went onto Interstate-30 heading eastbound, all the way into Dallas. After winding through the Oak Cliff area, the suspect led police into downtown Dallas and then northbound along Interstate-35E and onto Highway 183. Officers then chased the suspect through Irving, Euless, Bedford and Hurst, and onto Loop 820.

At one point during the chase, the Fort Worth Police Department stopped following the man as he was traveling on the wrong side of the road. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office picked up the pursuit.

The suspect finally stopped at an apartment complex in the 6000 block of Oakland Hill Drive, back in east Fort Worth, not far from where the chase first started. The man jumped out of his vehicle at the Linda Vista Apartments and started to flee on foot.

Dallas County deputies arrested the man just as he was entering the apartment of an acquaintance. He has been turned over to the Fort Worth Police Department and will be charged with evading arrest.
