The DFW event, which raised funds and awareness for pancreatic cancer research, is one of 50 PurpleStride events that happen around the country through the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. The funds “help provide personalized support for patients and support research grants and advocacy efforts to increase federal pancreatic cancer research funding,” according to the press release.

Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle was scheduled to attend the event at Klyde Warren Park. The walk kicked off at 7:30 a.m.
