DALLAS (CBS11) – A burst of wild weather created quite the mess in Dallas after strong winds and rain swept through the area.
The weather could be to blame for crumbling slabs of concrete off of a parking garage and toppling a massive billboard to the ground.
“Everyone I tell what happened, they’re like, “what?” A billboard fell in my car,” said Valerie Silva, whose car was smashed by the billboard.
Silva said she was working inside Buzzbrews near 75 and Fitzhugh Avenue when she felt a rumble. She did not realize how bad the situation was until she walked outside.
“The guy who told me it happened, he just said, ‘a sign fell on the roof of your car.’ He didn’t tell me a whole billboard fell through my car.”
Two miles away in Uptown Dallas, the entire concrete façade ripped away from an apartment parking garage.
“This is the only place where the weather can actually kill you,” said Justin Kane, who recently moved from Philadelphia. “On the East Coast, you may get some snow. The weather is bad here, it’s crazy.”
Kane, who lives inside the Taylor Apartments, said he heard the wind pick up and then a boom.
“It could have been really bad if people would have been walking around here. It’s right around getting off time in the afternoon,” said Battalion Chief Allan Springer of Dallas Fire Rescue.
No one was hurt in either case.
“That’s the part that’s calmed me down, that it was just the car and not me,” said Silva.
A worker from Clear Channel, the company who owns the billboard, said crews will try to remove the sign Tuesday morning.
