BURLESON (CBSDFW.COM)- Fourth of July is full of loud, fun, and exciting fireworks. However, it’s not so much fun for pets.

Many dogs tend to run away more on the Fourth of July than any other day according to the City of Burleson Animal Shelter.

The reason: dogs are very in-tuned with their senses.

When dogs are exposed to the loud sound of firecrackers and the smell of burning afterwards, it can traumatize them.

For this reason, The City of Burleson says pet owners should keep their fury friends at home, and have someone check on them every four hours if no one is home.

Also, before the big holiday, The Burleson Animal Shelter suggests pet owners get their pets microchipped if they’re not already.

If your dog happens to get lost or run away, the microchip provides a much better chance of pet and owner being reunited.
