FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – For those of you who know me either personally or through this blog, you know that radio was and is my first love. And I am proud to write about our sister station, 103-7, KVIL-FM.

In the mid 1960’s, KVIL AM/FM were located on Mockingbird Lane across from Dallas Country Club, and simulcasted with each other. The AM was daytime only: 1,000 watts, six towers, directional signal, on 1150AM (this station no longer exists and the frequency out of the market). The FM is 99,000 watts and today has its antenna and transmitter at Cedar Hill beaming from 1663 feet above average terrain. Big signal!!

The station is legendary, meaning that it has had a rich history of prominence going back to the late 1960’s when Ron Chapman left Channel 8 (WFAA-TV) and started as the morning drive man. Chapman was originally from Massachusetts but moved to Dallas in the 1950’s to work for Gordon McLendon at 1190 KLIF as part of the Charlie & Harrigan show (his on-air name was Irving Harrigan; “Charlie” Brown was Jack Woods in real life) before going to Channel 8 and The Dallas Morning News.  During his three decades at KVIL, the station dominated the DFW radio market with great music, great personalities, and great promotion. When Chapman left to go to KLUV, shortly thereafter KVIL became “Lite 103-7”.

Until recently, it was referred to as “1037 KVIL”, no “point” in between the 3 and the 7 but still used the call letters. But now the station is moving to the next level as “More Hits, Less Commercials……1037.” Plain and simple to me!

When you tune your radio or mobile app to listen to the station, you will hear the current hits from artists such as Arianna Grande (“Into You”), Sia (“Cheap Thrills”), and DNCE (“Cake By The Ocean”). You will also hear hits by such artists as Demi Lovato, Walk The Moon, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, and Charlie Puth, to name a few. This stations moves and keeps up the pace fast!!

Start your morning with Kannon & Sybil (weekdays 6-10am). They are funny, quick on their feet, and will keep you in the know on the latest trends! I promise you will love what you hear.

See you next time.
