DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Thousands of dollars of lawn equipment was stolen from the driveway of a firefighter in Rowlett.

Rowlett police said there have been several similar cases reported.

Will Young said he thought someone had played a trick on him when he walked out of his home in Rowlett on Friday morning.

“I’m thinking there is no way,” said Young, “Then I realized that somebody had stolen my truck and trailer.”

Young said thieves stole close to $30,000 worth of lawn equipment. His wife, Brook, was devastated when she heard the news because the landscaping business is her husbands’ second job.

“He is a Dallas Firefighter,” said Brook, “he serves his community day in and day out and puts his life on the line and for someone to come and steal from us is just hurtful.”

The vehicle was locked, and Will said that police don’t know how the thieves were able to steal the equipment.

Neighbors provided surveillance video to Rowlett police but that is the only lead in the case.

The couple filed a police report and hope that someone will come forward with more information.

“We just hope whoever did this will be caught and it won’t happen again,” said Young.

In an update to CBS 11, Brook Young said the truck and trailer was recovered Friday night and that they were working with police to recover the other missing items.
