Cold Weather To Blame For Power Outages Across North Texas

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The winter weather caused scattered power outages throughout North Texas according to Oncor, and about 1,400 people are still without power.

Oncor says the cold weather was to blame for the outages mostly from trees and debris getting snagged on power lines.

Affected residents’ only hope were the sounds of repairs as crews worked to fix the outages.

“At least they’re here working on it, so I have some confidence it’ll be restored in the next few hours,” said Dallas resident Biron Pickens.

Pickens’ home was nearly pitch black without power with the only sources of light coming from his iPhone and candles.

“It’s really making me realize what it’s like to have no technology – no power, and to just pretty much create my own fun,” said Pickens

The timing of the outages could not have been worse as the temperatures Sunday were some of the coldest Texas has seen in years.

Events such as the “Local Honey’s” show at the Granada in lower Greenville were also cancelled due to the outages. The show was rescheduled for Monday at 8:00 p.m.
