Since opening in 2009, the colossal Cowboys Stadium in Arlington has played host to a variety of events, in addition to its regular duties as home of America’s Team, the Dallas Cowboys. Along with the professional, college and high school football games, this 73-acre venue has been the site of boxing matches, bull riding events, soccer games, business conventions, trade shows and rock concerts with bands ranging from U2 to the Jonas Brothers.
Cowboys Stadium was also home to the 2010 NBA All-Star Game, which set a Guinness World Record for being the highest-attended basketball game in history (108,713 people). And attendance number could be shattered in 2011, when Cowboys Stadium hosts Super Bowl XLV.
The most distinguishing feature of Cowboys Stadium is perhaps its massive size. The venue rests on a site that measures 140 acres. The stadium itself is 900 feet long with 3 million square feet of space. Two arches for architectural support soar 292 feet above the field and stretch a quarter-mile in length. The retractable dome roof features an opening that is 410 feet long and 256 feet wide. It takes 12 minutes to open or close the roof.
Once inside of Cowboys Stadium, it is hard to miss the gigantic video board which hangs over the field. It is the world’s largest high-definition television screen. Produced by Mitsubishi, the video board measures 72 feet tall and 160 feet wide, on either side. It would take 4,920 standard 55-inch flat-panel televisions to equal the size of this video board. In fact, when the stadium hosted the 2010 NBA All-Star Game, the video board was actually larger than the basketball court.
Cowboys Stadium is not just about football. The stadium hosts a countless number of events ranging from soccer to basketball, boxing to rock concerts, motocross to home expos. Seating arrangements and ticket prices will vary based on the event.
The Ticketing Office is located on the northeast side of Cowboys Stadium, and is open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as well as special extended hours on event days.
On game days, Cowboys Stadium plazas opens three hours before kickoff. Concourses, clubs and suites open two hours before kickoff. These times may be adjusted on an event-by-event basis. Be sure to check with the stadium if you are not sure about when the doors will open.
Catch a behind-the-scenes look at Cowboys Stadium with a tour of the facility. The Self-Guided Tour allows guests to explore the stadium at their own pace, with time to explore and take in the atmosphere. Tourists are given access to the Dallas Cowboys locker room, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders locker room and the interview room. Guests can also run around, catch passes and take pictures on the actual NFL football field used by the Dallas Cowboys.
And, for even more access to Cowboys Stadium, guests can choose to take the VIP Guided Tour, where a stadium employee shows tourists around and spouts an unimaginable amount of facts and statistics about the largest domed structure in the world. This 90-minute tour includes everything seen on the Self-Guided Tour, plus access to the press box, private suites and office suites.

Parking for Cowboys Stadium tours is free in Lot 1 and Lot 2, located along Randol Mill Road. Tours depart from the Pro Shop at Entrance A. Video cameras are not allowed on the tour. Still cameras are allowed on the tour, provided they are consumer-model cameras. Professional quality equipment (such as lenses that are three inches or longer) are not be allowed.
Cowboys Stadium is located just south of Interstate-30 in Arlington, between Randol Mill Road to the north, Cowboys Way to the south, Collins Street to the west and Legends Way to the east. The stadium is directly down the street from Rangers Ballpark in Arlington and a short distance from Six Flags Over Texas.
For special events, specific traffic and parking plans are put into place based on which venues will be used during a particular time. Cowboys Stadium boasts approximately 12,000 parking spaces spread across 15 parking lots, with about 12,000 more parking spots around the nearby Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. All spaces and lots are used for Cowboys Stadium on event days, unless there is a conflicting event at the ballpark.
Most of the parking lots require passes to be purchased in advance. Passes are for designated lots only. A few cash parking lots are located near the stadium for those who do not have a parking pass and wish to pay for parking on the day of the event.
Cowboys Stadium has created a website to help guests find the best route from their home to the parking lot. Click here to visit that website. There, you can enter your zip code and which lot you will be using. The website then gives you optimal travel directions. The parking lots generally open to the public four to five hours prior to the start of a particular event. These times may change based on the event, so be sure to check with the stadium if you are unsure about when parking will be open and available.
All recreational vehicles and vehicles longer than 19 feet will only be allowed to park in Lot 14. Refer to the parking map to see where this lot is located. A $150 RV/oversized parking pass will be required. This pass can be purchased through the stadium’s Ticketing Office. Please note that overnight parking is permitted only for professional and college football games, not other events. Vehicles can arrive 72 hours before the game and must leave by 5:00 p.m. the day after the game. There are no hookups for electric or water in the parking spaces, but generators are allowed. There is a dump station on-site.
Buses are only allowed to park in Lot 15, and the appropriate parking pass is required. Please contact the Ticketing Office for information on obtaining a bus parking pass.
Limousines are allowed to drop off passengers in Lot 1 and Lot 6, with parking available along Randol Mill Road and Cowboys Way. Refer to the parking map to see where these streets are located. Parking passes are required for all limousines. Please contact the Ticketing Office for information on obtaining a limousine parking pass.
Disabled parking spaces are available in each parking lot and available on a first-come basis. Guests who use the disabled parking spaces must have a parking pass to the particular lot and a state-issued ‘person with disabilities’ plate or placard. Shuttle service for guests with disabilities will be made available at all parking lots both before and after stadium events.
Finally, if you would rather bypass parking altogether, passengers can be dropped off by other vehicles at one of two drop-off zones which are located on the north side of Randol Mill Road in Lot 1 or the south side of Cowboys Way in Lot 6. Guests can be picked up after events at the corner of Cowboys Way and Collins Street. Refer to the parking map to see where these streets are located.
Tailgating is permitted outside of Cowboys Stadium from the time that the parking lots open until two hours after each professional or college football game.
Tailgating is only permitted in the designated parking spots, which are located along the perimeter of each parking lot. These spots feature a grassy area immediately behind the parking space to be used for tents, tables, chairs and other tailgating equipment. Be courteous to other tailgating guests and keep all of your property directly behind your vehicle.
The following items and activities are prohibited during tailgating: deep fryers or any oil-based cooking; the sale of food, beverages or merchandise; open-flame fires with the exception of charcoal or gas cooking; disorderly conduct; picketing, political campaigning or soliciting; saving tailgating spaces; weapons and fireworks; excessively loud or amplified radios or audio systems.
Tailgater parking spaces are available on a first-come basis.
Tailgating equipment is not permitted within the parking lot itself. Please keep all parking spots and drives clear for traffic to flow through without issue. Also, tailgating is not permitted in Lot 3 or in portions of Lot 5, Lot 8 and Lot 9. Refer to the parking map to see where these lots are located.
When your tailgating party is done, be sure to dispose of all trash in the proper receptacles. This includes special containers designated for coals, located throughout the parking lots. Do not dump grill coals on the grass, in the parking lot or under vehicles.
