From crawling through drug tunnels on the U.S.-Mexico border to interviewing a U.S. presidential candidate, MaryAnn Martinez brings a wealth of reporting experience to CBS 11.

Prior to joining CBS 11, MaryAnn spent two years telling stories at KENS-TV in San Antonio. While reporting there, her reporting on public corruption in Crystal City, Texas triggered an FBI investigation. All but one elected official were taken into custody during the FBI raid on city hall. She also covered Pope Francis’ visits to Washington D.C. and to the U.S.-Mexico border. MaryAnn has also previously worked at FOX Los Angeles, Miami’s WFOR, and the FOX affiliate, KVVU, in Las Vegas.

Most people associate Las Vegas with gambling, but for MaryAnn, Las Vegas meant politics. Because Las Vegas is located in a swing state, former President Barack Obama made frequent trips to Nevada. MaryAnn covered all of his visits to Las Vegas during her tenure in southern Nevada. She also had the opportunity to sit down for a one-on-one interview with Mitt Romney while he served as the presidential nominee for the Republican Party.

In 2008, the U.S. Border Patrol called Tucson “ground zero” for human and drug smuggling. MaryAnn worked in Tucson during that time. She profiled the Arizona Minutemen, daily threats faced by border patrol agents, and reported from inside drug tunnels dug by El Chapo’s Sinaloa drug cartel.

MaryAnn’s coverage of the border began in El Paso, Texas. MaryAnn regularly traveled into Juarez, Mexico as a turf war between the Juarez drug cartel and the Sinaloa cartel broke out. MaryAnn is fluent in Spanish. Her extensive coverage of the U.S.-Mexico border earned her an invitation to Mexico City from the Mexican Department of State.

MaryAnn was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. She attended Baylor University, where she majored in journalism and wrote for the Baylor Lariat.
