East Coast of the United States
Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport cancelled 52 aircraft departures for Saturday, almost all due to the impact of Hurricane Irene along the East Coast.
By the time Irene roared across the Bahamas, Aidan O’Hare was safely in Plano, along with more than 400 of his company’s employees. “I’m glad we got out,” he said.
Thousands were fleeing an exposed strip of coastal villages and beaches off North Carolina on Thursday as Irene approached, threatening to become the first major hurricane to hit the East Coast in seven years.
