New safety ratings are out to help parents keep young children safe in the family car.
Out of the hundreds of makes and models of vehicles on American roadways only 22 can say they are among the safest on the road – that according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The 2014 Chevrolet Impala is the only non-luxury car to earn the highest rating in tests of high-tech crash prevention systems.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety looked at nine 2014 models, but only three of them got good crash ratings. The Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain and Toyota Highlander earned the top safety picks.
The safety message couldn’t be clearer: seat belts save lives. But, experts are reminding parents that seat belts were built for adults, so children may need to stay in booster seats much longer than is legally required.
