If Texas coach Charlie Strong needs anybody to commiserate with these days, he needs look no further than the sleepy college town of Lawrence and the guy coaching Kansas.
That long drought is somewhat misleading, considering the schools didn’t play each other for 58 years. But ever since the Big 12 began play in 1996, Kansas has usually been a whipping boy for Texas.
The preliminaries are almost done in the Big 12, with the Red Raiders and Longhorns among seven teams that have already completed their non-conference schedules only three Saturdays into September.
It’s no coincidence that the Longhorns, Jayhawks, Cyclones and Sooners will be among the favorites in a conference that should again be loaded in 2014-15.
