Don’t put away your swimsuits, boats and life jackets just yet. Despite recent near-torrential rains and area flooding, the majority of North Texas lakes will be open this Independence Day weekend.
North Texas Municipal Water District officials learned Thursday that lakes Lavon and Chapman are dangerously close to being too low for pumping water. The board still voted to extend Stage 3, twice a month watering through October.
Despite the “Fiscal Cliff” impasse in Washington, Congress did get one item through in time to help more than a million-and-a-half North Texans.
“It kind of seems like a waste of water with the water restrictions. It doesn’t make any sense,” said Carol Birkett, a Collin County resident.
