Skating has become a favorite pastime for teens and young adults. While skating on public property is by law prohibited, numerous facilities have opened their doors to skaters who love this sport. Here are the best skate parks around the DFW area. - Daniel J. Gansle 

Eisenbergs Skatepark

Located on the edge of historic downtown Plano, Eisenberg’s Skatepark invites skaters with 30,000 square feet of ramps, rental gear, camps, lessons and competitions. Facility includes retail shop, arcade and concessions.

Alliance Skate Park of Grand Prairie

Alliance Skate Park of Grand Prairie offers several courses, including a beginner’s course, advanced outdoor course and a covered advanced/intermediate course. Grab your skateboard, bike or skates and enjoy bowls, ramps and rails. A full-service skate shop is located on the property.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

At 37,915 square feet, The Edge in Allen is the largest outdoor skate park in the state of Texas. The Edge features ledges, bowls, slopes, ramps and street fixtures. Bring your own safety equipment, including knee/elbow pads and helmets.

Lakeland Hills Skate Park

Located six miles east of downtown Dallas in Lakeland Hills Park, this skate park is operated by the City of Dallas. Skaters can enjoy whizzing up and down ramps, rails, street fixtures and quarterpipes.

Lively Skate Park
