Q: Whoa. What is this?
A: It’s a 1937 Ford Coupe.
Q: Cool! How did you end up with a car like that?
A: Well, I’ve wanted one all my life.
Q: This specific car?
A: Well, either a ’37 or an old Coupe. Either way, this car is it.
Q: How did you find it?
A: Well, I ran across this guy. See, I had a couple motorcycles, and I sold one, so I went out and bought a Roadster. Turns out I didn’t like it, so I finished fixing it all up and I sold it, then I ran across this one, so I fixed this one all up.
Q: So is this one it?
A: Oh, I’ll probably get another car, but I won’t ever get rid of this one.
Q: You’re going to get another fun car?
Q: How old are you?
A: I’m 60.
Q: This isn’t your everyday car though, right?
A: Oh, no.
Q: Does it break down a lot?
A: That one? No. I just don’t drive it all the time. It doesn’t have an air conditioner, and it doesn’t have power steering, so that wouldn’t work out.
Q: What’s your everyday car?
A: I drive a truck. I don’t work anymore, so really I drive anything I want to. Sometimes I drive the Coupe, sometimes I drive my truck, sometimes I drive my motorcycle. Whatever I feel like.
Q: You have a name for it?
A: A name for my car? No, I don’t.
Q: Aw, come on.
A: No, really! No names.
Q: Have you taken any trips in it yet?
A: No, not yet. I worked about four months getting it like it is. I’m just now starting to drive it a little more.
Q: You bought it this year, then?
A: Yeah. I had to do a whole lot of work on it.
Q: What’s the odometer at?
A: Right now it’s got 50 miles on it because I had to put a new odometer in it. I don’t know how many miles it’s really got on it.
Q: What’s up with those woodpecker decals on the windows?
A: Oh, those are Smith Cams decals. They had those back in the 50s.
Q: Did you put them on there?
A: Yep. I put ‘em on there.
Q: What’s the best thing about having this car? Why do you put up with all the work and trouble?
A: I just like the looks of it – the style of it – I mean, there’s no A/C, it’s hot, you can’t ride in the heat. It has drawbacks, but I just like it.
Q: It’s all worth it, huh?
A: Oh yeah, absolutely!
