The beginning of the school year is just weeks away, and the Texas Department of State Health Services is reminding parents that children must be vaccinated before heading to class.  The state health department says if a student is not vaccinated, they may not be able to start school on time.  The state started new vaccination requirements in 2009 for five vaccines for students in kindergarten and seventh grade.
The new requirements are being phased in over several years and will also apply to first and eighth-graders who did not receive the required vaccines during their last school year.  Immunization requirements can be found here.
