AUSTIN (CBSDFW.COM) – With the explosion of social media there are many more ways to bully kids in school and out of school.

A house bill that is now pending in a committee would give schools more power to deal with the issue, even removing bullies from class and sending them to alternative education.

The Texas Freedom Network’s Kathy Miller supports the bill. “As a mom I would be very grateful if you took this step so we could protect more of our kids to the best of our ability in our schools.”

But the Liberty Institutes Jonathon Seinz says it might be used to protect certain groups including special protections because of sexual orientation. “It’s about creating new classes of people and giving special protections to some categories but not others.” Seinz says at this point those protections are out of the bill but he fears they could be amended back in.
