For 54 years he has been one of Hollywood’s more enduring stars. George Hamilton has done – and seen – it all. From his early beginnings as a young hunk in films like “Young Guns” – which he fondly remembers filming in Texas in 1952 – all the way to his turn as a reality star in “Dancing with the Stars” the handsome leading man has refused to slow down, even now at age 72!
Looking almost 2 decades younger in person (even with his signature deep tan) he told us keeping busy is the secret to his good looks and health – that and not taking himself too seriously. In fact his role as a song and dance man in the 3 time Tony award winning musical “La Cage aux Folles” now playing at the Music Hall at Fair Park definitely plays right into his good sense of humor!
His character is quite the bon vivant!! “La Cage aux Folles” tells the story of Georges (George Hamilton), the owner of a glitzy nightclub in lovely Saint-Tropez, and his partner Albin (Christopher Sieber), who moonlights as the glamorous chanteuse Zaza. When Georges’ son brings his fiancée’s conservative parents home to meet the flashy pair, the bonds of family are put to the test as the feather boas fly! It’s great fun and Hamilton says audiences around the country have adored the show and he is having the time of his life even though now his female admirers are not teeny boppers anymore! He says now the demographic is much different. He told us he has had a few offers from the 80 something group!
Whatever he’s doing – he’s doing it right! I’ll have what he’s having! La Cage aux Folles continues at the Music Hall through April 22nd.
