SAN ANTONIO (AP) — An Air Force basic training instructor has been sentenced to 30 days of confinement and reduction in rank in a sex scandal at a Texas base.

Lackland Air Force base officials say Tech. Sgt. Christopher Smith was sentenced Thursday by a seven-member military jury after five hours of deliberation. He was convicted Wednesday of wooing one female trainee and fraternizing with another at Lackland in San Antonio.

Smith was acquitted of making sexual advances on the female trainee he wooed and of obstructing justice.

His sentencing caps a three-day court-martial at the base.

Investigators say at least 38 female trainees were victimized and 15 instructors implicated in the scandal.

Staff Sgt. Luis Walker was sentenced to a 20-year prison term last month after being convicted of rape and sexual assault.
