DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Doctors at Methodist Central Hospital in Dallas saved a unborn baby after a car crash killed her mother.

Police in Dallas said that the woman’s 15-year-old son was behind the wheel of the car when it veered off FM 1382 and flipped shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. Her 5-year-old daughter was also a passenger. ShaChela Gilbert-Womack was nine months pregnant and died from her injuries, according to authorities.

The 37-year-old’s two children were taken to separate hospitals, with injuries that officers did not believe to be life threatening. The 15-year-old is just one month shy of his 16th birthday.

According to Gilbert-Womack’s Facebook page, she married her husband in June. The couple was expecting a baby girl.

Police said that the baby was saved from the womb and is now in the neonatal ICU at Methodist Central Hospital.
