ROCKWALL (CBSDFW.COM) – Candles in Rockwall Friday night as friends gathered to remember a 15-year-old girl murdered this week.

Police say Surie Baeza’s mother’s ex-boyfriend confessed to the murder.

Friends gathered Thursday at the Lakepointe Community Center. They gathered again Friday night on behalf of the victim’s family, who were there. All of them mourned together.

Surie died tragically. Her mother’s estranged boyfriend, the man she called her step-dad, confessed he stabbed her to death during an argument over a ring.

Surie’s cousin told those who had gathered, “This has been so hurtful for all of us.”

Rockwall city leaders were there too. “I want to offer my heat felt condolences,” said Mayor David Sweet.

City council members were there too along with representatives from Rockwall Heath High School and other people who’d never even met the family.

“We heard about what was going on and we just decided to do whatever we cold to support them,” said April Guerrero.

They brought flowers. They brought support.

“Everybody’s here to support the family,” said Jose Herreros.

Though members of the immediate family didn’t speak, their community spoke for them. “The hardest part is saying goodbye. That’s the hardest part,” said Herreros.

Funeral arrangements have not been finalized. All that is known at this time is that it will take place on Saturday, November 10 at 2pm in Sachse.
