TERRELL (CBSDFW.COM) – Grief counselors are again on the campus of Furlough Middle School in the Terrell Independent School District. They’re there to help students and staff after the unexpected death of a 13-year-old student.

There has been no cause determined for the death of Zusette Moreno but some of the girl’s family and friends are suggesting bullying may have played a role.

Terrell ISD Public Information Officer Raylan Smith said administrators are looking into the allegations. “The district understands that this is an absolute tragedy for the family. Obviously our thoughts and prayers go out to that family and we are also working through the rumors and questions or allegations through our Terrell ISD Police Department,” she said.

Moreno was allegedly rushed to the hospital last week and died days later. There are rumors that Moreno was the victim of an attack by other students on campus but Smith says the district has found no evidence of the allegations. “We have received no reports to the Terrell Police Department or Terrell ISD police of an assault of this nature involving a student at ISD. There are no reports.”

While there are no reports concerning Moreno with police, a preliminary autopsy has revealed some information. “We have received a report from the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office in follow-up to numerous rumors and allegations and we are able to confirm that there were no signs of trauma or assault identified in the medical autopsy,” Smith said.

On Saturday the City of Terrell and the Terrell ISD issued a joint press release that said, in part,

There have been no reports to Terrell Police or Terrell ISD Police of an assault of this nature involving a student at the ISD. Additionally, neither law enforcement agency has received any reports of an assault against a child by either emergency responders, doctors or emergency room personnel of an assault against a child, as they are required by law. The Terrell ISD Police routinely investigates rumors of bullying and assault. Consequently, rumors surrounding this event have been investigated as well and will continue to be investigated.

Zusette Moreno was pronounced dead on her birthday. There has been no word on when her funeral services will be held.
