SOUTHLAKE (CBSDFW.COM) – More than a hundred North Texans made their way to Southlake Friday morning… all in hopes of receiving free dental care.

For the 5th year Huckabee Dental is hosting a local Dentistry from the Heart event. The non-profit organization is dedicated to providing free dental care to those in need.

As many as 200 people are expected at the event, that provides free extractions, fillings and teeth cleanings. Dentist, volunteers, and sponsors work together to provide, what in many cases is, badly needed oral healthcare.

Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control have nearly half of the American population suffering from periodontal disease. That coupled with the fact that uninsured and underinsured individuals usually have little or no access to oral healthcare, makes the situation dire for many.

Speaking about the yearly dental event Dr. Tim Huckabee said, “The services provided by Dentistry From The Heart helps more than just a patients teeth, it gives them a renewed reason to smile.”

Since the inception of the event in Southlake, free dental work, valued at more than $200,000, has been provided to more than 900 North Texans.
