THE COLONY (CBSDFW.COM) – Colony Police are investigating the death of a child, who was apparently thrown from a moving vehicle.

Police say they received a call from the 3-year-old’s grandmother around 3:30 p.m., who called to report the little boy was missing. He has been identified as Ismael Galindez III from Frisco.

When police arrived on the scene at the 7700 block of FM 423, they were told the driver had lost control of her car, crossed the southbound lanes of traffic and hit a guardrail before she called 911.  After the accident she realized the child was missing from the backseat.  Police searched the accident area and found the toddler, who had been ejected from the car.   The child died at the scene.

The family explained to CBS 11’s Jason Allen, that a tire blew out on the grandmother’s car causing her to lose control and hit a guardrail. When she turned around to check on her grandson, he was gone. The boy’s father said his son was in a car seat, but had a habit of unbuckling the belt. The family is not sure if the window was down, or if it broke in the accident. Ismael was the the couple’s only child.

Police continue to investigate the accident, but the grandmother hasn’t been cited or charged.
