RJ Choppy for 105.3 The Fan | CBSDFW.COM

I’m a College Football Maniac. Shan Shariff is not. He’s an NFL guy, which I totally understand, he’s in the majority. But I can make a good argument why you should watch ALMOST every Bowl Game.

For one, its football, and as George Costanza once said when asked why am I watching it, “because its on TV”…so, here it goes.

I can’t make a compelling argument to watch any of the first 7 bowl games. The Gildan NM Bowl, Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl, Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, Bee ‘O’ Brady’s St Petersburg Bowl, Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. I’ll watch, but I’d look stupid trying to convince you to do the same, because those games are going to be BRUTAL. Except the ones broadcast on 105.3 The Fan. Those will kick ass.

Start out after Christmas with the SD County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. You can enjoy this for two reasons: First, you get to argue with people over the correct Pronunciation of Poinsettia, second, Jordan Lynch. I don’t need another reason to watch, he’s enough. Awesome player.

Skip the Military Bowl Presented by Northrop Grumman. Its a cold weather game in Annapolis, MD, an awesome site and a great town, but Marshall vs Maryland does this game no favors.

Then, it gets AWESOME

Dec 27

The Texas Bowl, Syracuse vs Minnesota. One of the great stories of this year is the Minnesota Head Coach Jerry Kill in his 3rd season. He’s had trouble with seizures throughout his time at UM, and now isn’t even seen on the sidelines for games. Great story, and one that deserves your attention. Plus, its in Texas!

The Fight Hunger Bowl, at AT&T Park in SF. BYU vs Washington. I’m always intrigued by games in baseball stadiums. Add Chris Peterson being the new Huskies HC, and you’ve got me hooked.

Dec 28

New Era Pinstripe Bowl, Yankee Stadium. Its got ND, who most hate and love to see lose, in Yankee Stadium, which I love, playing in conditions probably similar to what we’ll see for the Super Bowl.

The Belk Bowl. This is a tough sell, Cincy vs North Carolina, but it will be high scoring. UNC put up 80 this year, and Cincy is 15th in the Nation in passing. Could be 55-51.

Russell Athletic Bowl, Miami vs Louisville. Miami struggled down the stretch, but still has talent. Plus they sport a coach who still wears a suit/tie for the game. Plus, L’Ville has Teddy Bridgewater, probably the top QB taken in this draft. What’s not to like?

Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, Michigan vs K-State. Michigan still garners attention because of the history and the best uniforms in the business. Plus, Devin Gardner, their QB who wears #98 in honor of Michigan’s first ever Heisman Trophy Winner Tom Harmon, who just happens to be the father of Mark Harmon, the actor.

They take Dec 29 off, for the NFL, and get back to it on Monday Dec 30.

Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, Fort Worth. Middle Tennessee State vs Navy. Its in FW, which is cool, and Navy is in it, and those kids will be protecting your freedoms for years to come. Pay them that honor.

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl, Nashville. Ole Miss vs Georgia Tech. If you want to look at a team to keep an eye on for next year, check out Ole Miss. They had a GREAT recruiting class this year, and those kids will be big in this bowl. Hotty Toddy.

Valero Alamo Bowl, San Antonio. Oregon vs Texas. Could be the final game in the Mack Brown Era. If not, you still get to see one helluva Oregon team with a great QB Marcus Mariotta.

National University Holiday Bowl. Arizona State vs Texas Tech. I’ve heard people call this the “Eye Candy Bowl”. Hot Co-Ed’s, (and from what I’m told, quite dirty too!), and its in SD, so there’s a chance they won’t have many clothes on. Cameraman’s dream.

 Dec 31

AdvoCare V100 Bowl, Shreveport. Arizona vs BC. Boston College has RB Andre Williams, probably the top RB taken in this years draft. Future Dallas Cowboy?

Hyundai Sun Bowl, El Paso. Virginia Tech vs UCLA. Its not a great game, but its the only Bowl Game that CBS Broadcasts on TV, and I’m a company man! Plus, Verne and Gary are the just terrific at calling games, even in the twilight of their careers.

Skip the Autozone Liberty Bowl, move on to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, formerly the Peach Bowl. Duke vs TX A&M. Johnny Manziel’s final game? That’s all I need.

TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl, Nebraska vs Georgia. No Aaron Murray in this one, but you get to see some really good RB’s from UGA. Plus, Bo Pelini is at least entertaining when he blows up.

Heart of Dallas Bowl, Cotton Bowl in Dallas. UNLV vs UNT. Mean Green are in it, its in DFW, so why not?

Capital One Bowl, Wisconsin vs South Carolina. Jadeveon Clowney took this year off from making big plays, but not this game. This is his showcase.

Outback Bowl, Iowa vs LSU. All you need to do is watch “The Catch,” 2005 Capital One Bowl between these 2 teams to get up for this one.

Rose Bowl Game Presented by Vizio, Stanford vs Michigan State. Its the granddaddy of them all, so that should be enough. Add 2 Pro-Style pound the rock teams, and you’ve got me hooked.

Tostito’s Fiesta Bowl, UCF vs Baylor. David vs ‘Not Really’ Goliath but from a power conference.

Jan 2

Allstate Sugar Bowl, Oklahoma vs Alabama. Stoops vs Saban, Bama-fan vs Sooner-fan, Crimson all over the place. Its 2 of the most storied teams in NCAA. Watch it.

Jan 3

Discover Orange Bowl, Clemson vs Ohio State. I’m going to watch just so I can see another game in which Ohio State DOESN’T beat a Top 15 team.

AT&T Cotton Bowl, Oklahoma St vs Missouri. This is going to be a shootout.

Jan 4

BBVA Compass Bowl, Vandy vs Houston. Don’t bother. Skip it.

Jan 5

GoDaddy Bowl, Arkansas St vs Ball State. Don’t bother, skip it.

Jan 6

VIZIO BCS National Championship, Florida St vs Auburn. If I have to convince you to watch this one, you just wasted 10 minutes of your life.
