Family members and friends struggle to cope with the sudden loss.
A memorial filled with teddy bears, balloons, letters of love and prayers for Eric Lozano mark the spot where the 7th grader lost his life Friday evening.
His uncle remembered Eric as a happy kid who loved to play with his friends.
“Loved to play sports, ride skateboard, go fishing, loved his mom, his brother. You know, just a normal 12-year-old boy,” said Eric’s Uncle Brandon Brown.
Lewisville Police Department’s preliminary investigation states that an unlicensed 16-year-old girl was learning basic driving skills from her father when she lost control of the vehicle.
The girl allegedly put the car in reverse, and accelerated rapidly out of the driveway, crossed the road and hit Eric, pinning him against a nearby home.
Eric’s friends believed they had more time for fun and future plans.
“I didn’t believe it would end like this,” said Eric’s friend Luis Alvarez. “I mean it’s hard for us, his friends, especially the ones who saw everything.”READ MORE: Dallas Homicide Detectives Searching For Killer After Andre Tyron Rufus Fatally Shot
Eric’s aunt believes there should be legal action for her nephew and to protect other kids in the community.
“We just want some kind of justice, some kind of apology there hasn’t even been one single apology to my brother or my sister in law for nothing,” explained Erica Mendez.
“There’s been nothing, and something has to be done, legally. The child should have not been behind the wheel getting taught how to drive in a neighborhood where there are kids everywhere running around and playing.”
The family set up a GoFundMe page to help with the costs of Eric’s funeral. Since the accident, more than $6,000 of their $15,000 goal has been raised.
Lewisville Police have not released the name of the teenage driver accused of hitting Eric.
There is an ongoing investigation into the tragic accident. More details are expected to be made public Monday.
