FORT WORTH (KRLD) – When Cyrus, a Pit Bull mix, arrived at the Fort Worth animal shelter his left front leg was a mess.
“We don’t really know exactly what may have happened to him. If he was hit by a car or attacked by something. We tried for a few days to clean the wound and it just wasn’t working,” said Sandy Shelby, with the shelter.
Shelby says that’s when the decision was made to amputate Cyrus’ leg, and where where Rocker comes in. He’s a slightly larger Pit Bull mix and he became Cyrus’ blood donor.
Workers at the shelter say amazingly Rocker sat perfectly still during the entire process, which is very rare. It was as if he seemed to know the importance of what he was doing. After the two rested for a day, they met for the first time in the yard by the shelter, and the amazing happened.
“It was almost as if those two dogs knew something special just happened because they started cleaning each others’ face. It was just amazing to see that we have our own Christmas miracle here,” said Shelby.
Although, he lost a leg, Cyrus gained a new best friend.
“Absolutely, it is safe to say Rocker saved Cyrus’s life. No doubt,” said Shelby
Now the Fort Worth Animal Shelter will take applications for an adopting family, hopefully putting both dogs in the same home.
