LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) – A fake gun triggers a very real response at a Lewisville high school today. According to Lewisville police, a 16-year-old boy brought what’s called an ‘air soft’ pistol to the Harmon campus Thursday.

While showing it off to friends in his backpack, other students spotted the very realistic looking gun and alerted campus staff.  The student was soon hauled out of class and into the principal’s office.

“It’s a very realistic gun,” says Capt. Dan Rochelle, Lewisville Police Department. “If the school resource officer or another office had been at the campus and saw a kid waving that type of gun around it could have been very serious.”

The teenager was given a citation, but officers stress the situation was far from funny. “[It] could have ended very badly,” says Capt. Rochelle.

The teen’s name is not being released because he is a juvenile.
