ROWLETT (CBS 11 NEWS) – Thousands of dollars worth of equipment stolen from at least two different North Texas power tool stores in a matter of minutes. Shop owners believe their stores are being targeted by the same group of burglars.

“They were prepared. This was not their first rodeo. They know what they’re doing,” said Kevin Kerbel, who owns Lakeview Power Equipment in Rowlett.

Kerbel said a group of four, masked men broke into his store Monday and got away with an estimated $20,000 worth of generators and power saws. It took the group of men less than two minutes to make of with the goods.

“I’d give them the shirt off my back if they asked. But they didn’t ask,” Kerbel said. “They just came in and did their thing.”

A similar burglary took place in McKinney. Royce Grant owns Elliot Electric Supply in the city. “It’s irritating because we come to work every day and work for our money, and people come in and steal it from us.”

Grant said a second Elliot Electric Supply location was also hit in nearly the same way. “It’s stuff they know they can get rid of fast. It’s fast money,” he said.

Both stores have stepped up security as a result of the burglaries.  The store owners hope other shops take notice to the crimes before they too fall victim to the speedy thieves.

But Kerbel has a prediction for the criminals future. “You’re going to get your day. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but in the end you’re going to get your day.”

Officials at both the McKinney and Rowlett Police Departments were called for comment but did not immediately respond.

Kerbel is now offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the four men who burglarized his Rowlett store.
