COLLIN COUNTY (CBS 11 NEWS) – A Frisco man says he knew he made a big mistake after telling his wife he sold a piece of wall art at their yard sale on Saturday. Now the Harvey family is trying to find the person who bought it for $1, because they’d like to buy it back.
“It meant a whole lot more then I realized because when he told me, I could just not contain it,” Evelyn Harvey remembered. “I’m not normally emotional and I just had a hard time holding myself together.”
The brass ships wall art has been in Evelyn’s family for many years. Evelyn Harvey does not know when her mother purchased it, but she says it was always on the living room wall in her family home. She still has a picture with her mother in front of it when Evelyn was about 10-years-old.
“It brings you back to that time, an era,” she said. “So much happens in life and so it’s nice to have that connection to that time.”
On his Facebook page Nathan Harvey wrote, I did a very stupid husband thing.”
Evelyn Harvey says before her mother died of breast cancer five years ago, her mother asked her which family items she would like to keep. Harvey chose the brass ships and she carefully packed it and brought it from California to Texas after her mother passed away.
The Harvey family is in the process of moving and the ship art was sitting next to the items the Harvey’s decided to sell during their yard sale. The family lives on Gonzales Street in the Panther Creek Estates in Frisco. On Saturday at least a dozen other families were also having yard sales, so there were hundreds of people in the area.
Nathan Harvey says he doesn’t remember who purchased the brass ships, but now the couple wants to get the word out in the hopes that the buyer will bring it back. Evelyn had a message for the buyer. “If you have it and you’re not really attached to it, I would love it if you could bring it back. That would be awesome.”
Nathan Harvey hopes someone will contact him through his Facebook page.
